Sanitation announced today that it has transitioned its operations to a winter schedule. Long known as “Night Plow,” the Department schedules more employees to overnight hours during the winter to respond promptly and effectively to snow conditions around the clock.
NYC Sanitation is offering members of the press, especially those new to covering New York City, a chance to see snow fighting equipment up close, film b-roll and speak to experts. This event allows news outlets to capture footage & interviews for use throughout the winter season.

Local Law 26/2011 requires agencies responsible for preparing for and responding to snow emergencies provide an annual snow preparedness and response report for each snow event of six inches or greater. From November 15, 2019 through November 14, 2020 there were zero (0) reportable snow events.
DSNY has announced that registration is now open for those interested in working as Emergency Snow Laborers for the 2022-2023 winter season. Emergency Snow Laborers are per-diem workers who remove snow and ice from bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants and step streets after heavy snowfalls.
