After Santa’s debut along the parade route, some 160 of New York’s Strongest will spring into action, cleaning up all the “leftovers” from the annual Thanksgiving Day parade. Following the parade in 2021, Sanitation crews picked up more than 27 tons of debris.
The New York City Department of Sanitation, the country’s largest municipal waste agency, will hold a ceremonial walkout of its headquarters to honor departing Commissioner Edward Grayson as he concludes his career at the agency.
Santa is not the last one on the Thanksgiving Day parade route-it will be one of nearly 100 DSNY employees who are responsible for cleaning and removing the debris left behind! While parade spectators start heading home to their Thanksgiving meals, our employees are just starting to clean the route.
The New York City Department of Sanitation will hold an outdoor Graduation, Promotion and Award ceremony for nearly 1,000 Department employees, Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Maimonides Park (1904 Surf Ave, Brooklyn) at 11:00am.
