Water Street, in Manhattan?s Financial District, serves as a key corridor for commerce, transportation, and increasingly residential development. With this project, DOT seeks to enhance the streetscape and improve the pedestrian environment while reorganizing traffic flows to improve safety. Crosswalks will be shortened, new pedestrian space will be created, curb usage will be assessed to maximize efficiency, and connections to the waterfront will be enhanced.

The Department of Transportation released a report on the THRU Streets initiative which showed that the program has had a beneficial effect on traffic conditions in midtown Manhattan. The initiative has consistently improved travel time, increased vehicular capacity, and enhanced pedestrian safety. The average travel time along the City's THRU Streets fell by 25 percent, while speeds went up by 33 percent. The number of motorists benefiting from this improved travel time rose by 16 percent.

"The Gates" required the full closure of the Central Park Drives to set up and dismantle the exhibit, and partial closure during the exhibit. The Soundview Transportation Study resulted from a community request to address traffic congestion and safety on the Soundview peninsula. The study recommends several measures to improve traffic operations and enhance safety, including signal timing changes, converting two-way streets to one-way, and adding turning lanes on Castle Hill Avenue and Bruckner Boulevard.
The ECHOES (Every Child Has an Opportunity to Excel and Succeed) Concept Paper is a precursor to the subsequent Life Readiness Project Request for Proposal (RFP). Incollaboration with the Center for Economic Opportunity (CEO), the New York City Department of Probation (DOP) will implement ECHOES, an alternative-to-placement program serving 70 youth on probation annually throughout the five boroughs.
Older adults are more likely to suffer serious injuries or fatalities from traffic crashes than other pedestrians. This led to the development of the Department of Transportation's Safe Streets for Seniors Program to address senior pedestrian safety issues at 25 Senior Pedestrian Focus Areas in the five boroughs of New York City. In this report, the West Midtown Manhattan Focus Area has been studied and improvements have been recommended.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed designation of the Ridgewood North Historic District, located in Queens, as a city landmark. The district consists of well-preserved early 20th century model tenements that once dominated the area. These tenements are known as Mathews Model Flats, named after the developer, the G.X. Mathews Company.
