DSNY is welcoming 30,000 Bronx tenants ot their curbside organics collection service. Beginning July 19, some large-scale commercial food-generating establishments will be required to separate their organic waste (food scraps, food-soiled paper) and arrange for its proper management through methods that include composting or aerobic/anaerobic digestion.
Starting August 1, new recycling rules for New York City businesses will be in effect. The new rules were the result of efforts to have more uniform and easier to understand recycling rules for all business types. The rules cover all commercial establishments, and others, that have their garbage and recycling collected by private carters.
The New York City Department of Sanitation continues to expand curbside collection of food scraps, food-soiled paper and yard waste though its NYC Organics program. Starting next month, all residents in Brooklyn's Community Board 1 will have access to the program.
