Press Release #17-06: City Agencies to Help Residents Prepare for New Carryout Bag Law - Free Reusable Bags to be Available at Giveaway Event Near Brooklyn's Borough Hall and at Other Events Across the City
To help residents prepare for the new Carryout Bag law, the New York City Department of Sanitation will give away free reusable bags to passersby near Court and Montague Streets in Brooklyn. Starting February 15, 2017, New York City stores will begin charging customers at least five cents for each plastic, paper, or cloth carryout bag provided. The New York City Council passed this bill last year to reduce the use of carryout bags. Residents not able to attend this Brooklyn event can find additional DSNY bag giveaway events at on.nyc.gov/bag-fee. The map will be updated frequently.
