The purpose of this project is to address senior pedestrian safety issues in the Yorkville study area as part of the Department's Safe Streets for Seniors (SSS) Program.
Older adults are more likely to suffer serious injuries or fatalities from traffic crashes than other pedestrians. This led to the development of the Department of Transportation's Safe Streets for Seniors Program to address senior pedestrian safety issues at 25 Senior Pedestrian Focus Areas in the five boroughs of New York City.
