DSNY is pleased to submit its 2023 Zero Waste Plan which provides an overview of our portfolio of waste diversion programs, which reduce waste to landfill and assist with the City's climate goals. This plan fulfills the requirement of Local Law 87 of 2023 to submit a Zero Waste Plan.
In its continued efforts to reduce the amount of time waste sits on our streets, DSNY has announced signup will once again open for its Multi-unit Apartment Building Early Set-Out program. The program allows apartment buildings with nine or more residential units to opt into a 4 am–7 am window.
DSNY announced that in observance of New Year’s Day, Monday, January 1, 2024, there will be NO trash, curbside composting nor recycling collection on the holiday.

To all licensees and registrants: On New Year’s Eve, December 31, street access will be restricted in Manhattan for the area:
• Bounded by West 38th Street on the South;
• West 59th Street on the North;
• 6th Avenue on the East;
• 8th Avenue on the West.

DSNY has announced that registration is now open for those interested in working as Emergency Snow Shovelers for the 2023-2024 winter season. Emergency Snow Shovelers are per-diem workers who remove snow and ice from bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants and step streets after heavy snowfalls.
Did you know that after Santa makes his appearance, 170 of New York’s Strongest will spring into action, cleaning up all the “leftovers” from the annual Thanksgiving Day parade? Following the parade in 2022, Sanitation crews picked up more than 62 tons of debris.
